The Center for Energy and Environmental Research in the Human Sciences (CENHS)
Research on the energy and environment nexus across arts, humanities and social sciences.

 

Green Carbon Center
Research on the improvement of existing carbon-based fuel sources and hydrocarbon fuel and development of new carbon-based fuel of biological origin.

 

The Kinder Institute for Urban Research
A center that provides critical analysis on a range of pressing urban issues, including education, transportation, health, development, resiliency, immigration and more. It strives to build better cities and improves people’s lives by bringing together data, research, engagement and action.

 

Nanosystems Engineering Research Center for Nanotechnology-Enabled Water Treatment (NEWT)
An interdisciplinary, multi-institution nanosystems-engineering research center joint by Rice University, Arizona State University, University of Texas at El Paso and Yale University.

 

Energy and Environment Initiative (EEi)
An multi-disciplined research center dedicated to create solutions for energy sustainability in collaboration with external market stakeholders. Research areas include oil and gas, power, petrochemicals, and more.

 

Rice Biochar Group
A group focused on biochar amendment in soil to increase soil fertility, improve drainage, and help manage nutrient pollution and carbon emission.

 

Rice University Shell Center for Sustainability (SCS)
The center fosters academic research, outreach and education initiatives in interdisciplinary partnerships with experts in the Houston and Galveston Region.
