Summer Programs

Urban Sustainability and Livability Program

Urban Sustainability and Livability Program is a 5-week summer course in Europe where students learn with local architects, planners and environmental specialists about sustainable urban practices. The program is open to Rice undergraduates of all majors. Students can earn credits for ENST 446: Engaged Urban Research Lab, and ENST 445: Urban Sustainability Seminar.

In 2017, students studied at Paris, London and Sweden. The program encourages students to utilize cities as their classrooms and learn from real world observations and hand-on experiences. Over the course of the six weeks, students take classes with Rice University’s local partners and conduct individual research projects according to their interests.
